The Outsider’s Guide to Adobe Summit 2017

By Phillip Kemelor posted 03-16-2017 06:47 AM

We’re less than a week and counting down to the official start to this year’s Adobe Summit. I haven’t been to the Vegas version, but I really enjoyed the SLC experiences over the years – from the beautiful mountain views from the rooms at Grand America – to dive karaoke bars – to that little coffee roaster across from the parking lot at Little America – to the bakery that makes those special French pastries called Kouign-amann.

There’s an element to SLC that just makes walking the streets feel like you’re an outsider; probably because so few people are walking the streets.

So, with Adobe Summit coming, I’m thinking, “How can I get out of the hotel every so often. The weather is going to be near perfect, and there’s more to LAS then the Venetian and the Strip.”

Well, I’m thinking of heading to Red Rocks Canyon. I was there a few years back and it was a great place to hike and climb on the boulders. There’s also a few mountain biking options with some local outfitters that might be worth checking out.

And then there’s the food …off Strip. Believe it or not the #2 rated restaurant in all of LAS is a tiny Japanese sushi place called Raku. It’s embedded in the Chinatown area on Spring Mountain Road that’s teeming with great spots. You probably can’t get a reservation at Raku, but if you get there right before it opens at 6 you can sometimes get a seat at the bar…that’s what we did a few years ago.

In the evening, I’m heading down to the original, pre-Strip Vegas, Fremont Street casinos. It’s the opposite of elegant, but it’s great for classic neon, lower table stakes and much friendlier blackjack dealers. Nearby there’s Container Park to catch a drink and the flame breathing praying mantis.

And what about Summit? Yes, I’ll be most interested in updates and announcements about Video, Mobile Marketing and Cross Device Visitor Stitching.

If you’re going to UnSummit on Monday, I’ll be leading a session called “Personal and Personnel Development.” It’s going to address how to advance your career in digital analytics and improve your team’s performance. It’ll be more of a discussion, so sure to give you something to think about after you leave LAS.

Still thinking over the Summit sessions to attend? Happy to give you my 2 cents.

Looking forward to seeing you either on the inside or the outside.

Great food recommendations - I too highly recommend UnSummit! Of course, don't forget to convince your agency or Adobe sales team to treat you to dinner Tuesday night ;)

What sessions are you all most excited for?
