2020 State of the Association Address

By Marilee Yorchak posted 01-03-2020 07:29 PM

2020 is here! DAA is in the midst of strategic planning to help us carry out our mission statement: Advancing the use of data to understand and improve the digital world through professional development and community.

From our humble beginnings in 2004, one thing hasn’t changed:  that all our benefits and decisions are focused on YOU as the member – how do we help YOU be the best you can be in our rapidly changing industry?

We’ve just closed out another successful year for DAA and as the New Year begins, I’m excited to share with you DAA’s accomplishments and plans for the future as YOUR nonprofit association for digital analytics.

Some highlights for the year:

  • DAA is on a strong and steady growth pattern, well outpacing the average for associations, and maintaining a secure stronghold on 5,000 members.
  • We celebrated 15 years as an association, with new stories to share among our membership, and nine chapters participated in DAA birthday day activities.
  • DAA’s 16 chapters held 40+ events in 2019, and the five symposia had average satisfaction scores in the 90-percentile range!
  • The first-ever DAA OneConference brought together over 200 industry professionals, interacting with 20 industry-leading speakers, and providing 16 hours of continuing education (not to mention lots of opportunities to network with your tribe!)
  • The Quanties Awards were held in conjunction with the OneConference, with a new category (Top Consultant) and the highest number of entries ever, and more entries from outside North America than ever before.
  • Webinar Wednesdays was started, and we held over 20 webinars in 2019.
  • DAA’s Women in Analytics initiative continued to expand, with 655 members and a robust mentoring program. In addition, the previously recorded Thought Leader Conversations have been added to our new podcast.
  • Education offerings have been made easier to access, and with more emphasis on micro-learning.The popular DAA Essentials courses moved to an online format with a live instructor; and DAA partnered with Sparkline to offer “Becoming a 21stCentury Digital Analyst” series, all online.
  • A post-GDPR study with Ebiquity was released, with seven recommended actions for companies to consider.

Plans for 2020:

We listened very carefully in 2019, and have developed some initial plans, based on member feedback, including:

  • OneConference2020 will expand with the addition of pre-conference workshops.
  • DAA will continue to explore avenues of growthfor corporate leaders, following a successful Corporate Member Leadership Forum (CMLF) in-person session at OneConference 2019, and expand on the 1:1 Peer Connection program.
  • We will be reducing the number of emails you see in your inbox.
  • DAA has partnered with Forrester for a study on organizational digital maturity, and work will continue with the United Nations on an organizational gender equality report.
  • We hope to make a good start on updating the DAA Competency Framework, and are investigating options for updating the Compensation Study.
  • In April, the mentoring program will be expanded to fewer restrictions on the relationship make up.
  • Soft skills will become part of the Self-Assessment, and four recordings of industry leaders sharing tips for soft skills developments will be released in Q1.

2020 looks to be a pivotal year for the digital analytics industry, with issues of privacy, AI, gender equality, data governance, expanding roles for analytics teams in organizations, finding and retaining digital analytics talent - the list can go on and on!

But the thing you can count on:  DAA is your partner to help you navigate the sea of change and stay up to date on your skills as you provide value to your company - and yourself.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you.
