By Ravindra Kumar posted 11-10-2014 03:44 PM

Everyone in digital advertising space talks about SEO, although they also do google for example "landing page optimization", people query about it approximately 17k times per month in malaysia but mostly failed to get the right answer.

I have also searched a lot on this topic. Honestly speaking, I have read more than 10,000 articles, only then, I understood and applied my findings to get my desired behaviour.

I am trying to share my experience about "How to optimize your website to get top search result in Google?"

Firstly, consider the following points:

  1. Don't think to optimize for few trophy keywords
  2. Optimize for long tail keywords
  3. Do text analysis of webmaster keywords
  4. Build the links for your keyword

It is all about analyzing traffic and optimizing to conversion rate instead of CTR (click through rate) because you can make people click but if content is not relevant then it's useless because within 1-3 sec, the user will leave and you will face a huge bounce rate problem. So get oppportunities through predictive analysis and make it for future conversion.

Secondly, you have to know how Google search engine works:

  1. Google is constantly releasing algorithm changes to refine its search service and return the best results possible like ‘Panda’, ‘Penguin’, and most recently, ‘Hummingbird’.

  • Panda(February 23, 2011) : 1)Thin content 2)Duplicate content 3)Low-quality content
  • Penguin (April 24, 2012) : Importance of links
  • Hummingbird(September 26, 2013) : Content strategy should be designed to answer their needs, not just provide them with facts.

So follow the google algorithm changes and webmaster guidelines.

Thirdly, you have to know about the impacts in SERPs (search engine results pages) :

Lastly, Competitive analysis :

  1. Why are your competitors' rank are higher than yours in SERPs?
  2. What are they doing that you are not?

These are the million-dollar questions, if you are able to find the answer then you are the winner of SEO battle.

  1. Use a tool like Social Crawlytics that will help you crawls the site and identifies all social shares of every piece of content on that site and able to find what's working, what isn't, and quickly identify what you can create?
  2. Use any of the link indices -- Open Site ExplorerAhrefsMajestic. All of these tools, if you go to the top pages reports for the different competitors, you can quickly see what's working and what's not, and then you have those metrics to make that business case.
  3. Use SimilarWeb this is one of my favorite tools to use when researching potential niches I want to go into. It’s important with inbound marketing to know what works and what doesn’t.SimilarWeb allows us to do the following :

    • View best performing pages on competitor’s website
    • Sites to explore for advertising deals with
    • New affiliates to approach for traffic generation

I have applied these findings in my clients website and got unbelievable results in the traffic of the website that increased by 827% and Bounce rate decreased by 58%.
